Talks With Spec Boogie

Metro54 invited us to host the pop up urban cafe at No Limit in Amsterdam. The evening kicked off with a interesting documentary film ”Downtown Calling” examining the evolution of New York in the 70s and 80s was at the heart and how much influence it had and still has in music, art and clothing industry. It was a long film and though our concentration curve was severely challenged, it was very interesting none the less particularly the parts about Hip Hop and Graffiti.

After the doc the Moeimakers (Dutch rap group) started recording a track, with a total of 3 verses. The whole track was preformed at the end of the evening, this was part of the urban cafe program. The one and only Spec Boogie from Brooklyn, NY, was the special guest. He is well known for his fascinating word play in his lyrics, an is most definitely an inspiration to the newest members of the Hip Hop generation working in the areas of music and fashion. Daily Paper had the opportunity to interview him and during the “Talks With Spec” he revealed his views on Hip Hop and gave us some tips. After answering questions about his life and music. DJ Lee and L’Afrique Som Systeme closed the evening with some fresh sounds.

During the day we turned up the energy level with some bangers. This created a great vibe and atmosphere.

You may know K’Naan from his new World Cup song “Waving Flag” or his albums: The Dusty Foot Philosopher and Troubadour. He is currently gaining universal acclaim for his entailment of the struggle that faces Somali’s and other Africans a like. Last year we interviewed him during his european tour, and got to dig a little deeper in this mind of this (musical) genius.

L’Afrique Som Systeme

Last summer Asheru, and Piewi learned how to spin tracks on a wheel, this was something they did with a high energy level. Within a few weeks/months their enthusiasm faded. But they kept the knowledge. Knowing that it would come in hand in the future.

3 weeks ago Asheru couldn’t resist the temptaion when he was asked to spin some tracks at the Metro 54 El Cheapo party by his sister Amal. With the immense music knowledge of Neo, and the high energy vocals of Jeffs “L’Afrique Som Syteme” was born. With fresh new sounds they hope to bring a certain amount of energy on the dance floor.

Our homie Augustusvondoom made a mix of the evening said. Download link below. You can expect dancehall, with a UK FUNKY twist. Checkout the tracklist after the jump.
