I love photoblogs and i’m not talking about the pretentious look at my artsy self taking pictures of two pigs humping eachother, naaaa! Im on about the blogs entailing wonderful visual tails of ridicule by means of photographs. Lately, I’ve been bumping in to a lot of these blogs. Maybe a subconcious thing because i got this niggling feeling that i dont laugh enough these days, partly due to the fact that i stay meanmugging to make myself seem more rugged and intimidating.
That aside, these blogs usually have one simple mission e.g take a sticker that says “fuck”. Place the sticker on a sign, display, or whatever and take a picture of it. To do this you usually require reader participation and that is what makes these blogs awesome. Building a blog by mashing up the creativity of some of the inhabitants of the world that for example share your hate for shaven legs sounds ridiculously awesome right, I think this is as close were gonna get to MLK ’s “I have a dream” speech! Might even get one of my own if it wasnt for the arduous task of weeding through all the sheit that people send in. Major shittaker i assume. But anyhow three cheers to wonderfull world of photoblogs. I always bless you so I might aswell do it again a few of my favourite photoblogs below!

Personally im not that big on mixtapes but this is out of love and I actually dig this one. Big up to them!

So I had a MAD MAD weekend went to the swurdinxbrutuzxguerillaxOJ party on friday sold a little DP crack and had a BALL. This party was definitely the most tweeted party EVER, a grand total of 81 tweets crazyness i say chalee. Saturday it was time for our bimonthly KingKong affair and went apeshit to the sweet melodies of the freshest kidz and saw the most scandelous shit ever at the rotterdam carni. Battyriders, Brazilian handicapped horse hair, Shaneeqa’s, Homothugs with tears tattood on their cheeks and white girls with their hair pulled so far back that they looked like Janice Dickinson on speed.
It was an orgy of buffoonery a annihilation of taste, a celebration of debauchery. One big ass mess! Shame on you if you got your backpockets grinded of your jeans at that function. Anyway back to my weekend sunday we supported big homie sawurin while he was fingering the ones and twos. Check out the pics from the infamous Sonic Boom Party below. Shout out to the BBB’s we do it biggle. Props @ Zalvar and Nika. SHOUT OUT TO SPOEK FOR BUYING THE DP TEE. BADMAN DER

What shoes are you rocking this summer? Vans? Sebagos? J’s? Sperry’s? Fuck alla that! Common Projects just threw bleach in they eye with their rendition of the classic desert boot. Imagine these boots with some stonewash jeans wouldnt that just drop beautifully. Or what about these with some shorts and a crisp white tee. Awesomeness. Kanye kind of broke them in but kudos to him great find and great exposure for CP. Too bad they cost a small fortune though, especially in these times when pockets are kind of tight. Check out the interview one of the owners did with sneakerfreaker mag here.
I hate pretentious arty people, or people that claim they are cultured because they can name a gondry title. Bar the occasional hot arty chick, i despise most of them. I despise a lot of things you should never take offense. This is by the way just a disclaimer so I don’t come over as a pretentious arty prick but as a lover of fine arts and everything remotely status boosting ;).
Back to the mediterranean title of this post. Gianluca Fallone is an argentinian designer/illustrator that hails from a little know city which I once called my home, Londres. Dude is only 23 but does some pretty amazing stuff and has already worked with MTV and Nike. Baller status. His work is mainly inspired by japanese animation and music, definitely one of my favourite designers at the moment.
Dailypaper has got bundles, heaps and shitloads of love for Africa. To illustrate our amour for Afrique we made a little T-shirt, bearing the truthful words “Africa Is The Future”. A phrase that should resonate across the entire world. With a little help from our good friend Jonathan Bleker ( I sees you) who did the design. If you want a tee send us a e-mail and if you dont live to far away we’ll ship it to where ever your doing work.
The Tshirts are also on sale at SonicBOOMBATA a night that is bound to be legendary one @Flexbar on the 24th of July in Amsterdam. If you want to act royal or save yourself a few scrillas for a rainy day holla at me for a spot on the guest list. Homie Rory AKA The Hipster Jesus was gracious enough to hook us up with a few spots so bring a hot female friend who brings a hotter female friend and direct them all to the Bigi Bana Boys for some love in this club(i sees you usher). More about the BBBs in another post.
I love talented people I love talented girls even more. So when my homie Naphtaly (formerly of Eatly) told me about her new project Poloroyt I was instantly enthiousiastic about it. What she does is she helps young talented stylist, photographers, visagist, hairstylist and models expand their portfolios by combining their talents and doing a full on shoot. Thus building up her experience and theirs. Check her personal blog and the Poloroyt blog. Thats good peoples yo. Plus my homie Sharon Jane did the photography for the Wild Thing shoot.

Insomnia is a cause for serious concern especially in my case. Last time I slept before the next day had started was back in the spring of 2008. So what do I do when I toss and turn in my bed, well I watch Canvans of course. Canvas is a belgium TV channel that must broadcast the most serious documentaries ever. They usually rip them from Channel 4 but the maker of this particular documentary is unbeknown to me.
It followed the life of four kids in Soweto, that train surf for kicks. What is trainsurfing well its a death defying act, one jumps on a riding train and stands on top of it whilst it reaches speeds of + 150 miles p/h. Usually these kids buss of a few skanks too. As to riducle my fear of heights. These kids are verocious make me tell you! One of their friends recently died so they trainsurf in memory of them. Apparently its now a craze all across the world.
I found a little video of some kids in the act. If anyone could hook me up with the documentary maker it would much appreciated.
Awesome dancers fearless fuckers
“Receding hairlines a bitch. I keep losing hair on my head but gaining it on my ass, it’s ridiculous. There’s less and less hair for barbers to cut. There’s gonna be a time when I’m going to the barber to get an ass cut. ‘Can I have a one on the left cheek, one on the right and zero on the crack’”. I howled and doubled over in laughter along with two hundred fellow lovers of comedy in a dimly lit, cascading theatre somewhere in the east end of London. Stand up comedy has grown exponentially in popularity these days. The New York Times recently described it as being the new rock n roll and one has to merely observe the hustle and bustle of the scene, the ever increasing picket-carrying immigrants advertising the openings of new comedy clubs, the worship of Russell Brand in tabloids and Judd Apatow’s comedy empire to see that they have a point.
In these most trying of times, the comedic muse Thalia has showered us with such great escapism, sending forth messengers in the form of Sacha Baron Cohen, Bill Burr, Seth Rogen, Dave Attell, Aziz Ansari and the unlikely comedy troupe Allah Made Me Funny. The huge success of comedy films like The Wedding Crashers, 40-Year-Old Virgin, Harold and Kumar and Borat means that Hollywood have taken notice and placed an emphasis on funding comedy movies. The low budget cost of comedy films coupled with a high marketable concept or gimmick, has led to huge turnover potential for Hollywood, so much so that comedy actors have replaced their action counterparts for recognition and publicity. Seth Rogen and Sacha Baron Cohen are the new Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sly Stone.
The effect has percolated to wider society as more and more people are trying their hand at comedy to emulate their hero’s. Yours truly harbours world domination through comedy. Open mic nights are now packed with the first steps of desire. Comedian has been informally placed on the creative, hedonistic list along with old heads DJ, Musician, Actor, Model and Writer. London, Toronto, New York and Amsterdam have taken to it in numbers and their scenes are said to be burgeoning.
“I once saw a woman with shaving bumps, so I gave her tips on how to prevent them. Pull your hair back in a ponytail, use a hot towel, shave against the grain, don’t forget to wipe away the hair from your titties”. I cackled madly whilst the rest of the audience guffawed. We are witnessing a cultural rebirth, a renaissance of comedy, the age of humour enlightenment. Nice.

My house is practically littered with magazine partly due to my hunger for all things new and partly because of my magazine addicted sister. So I recently picked up the new issue of Paper Magazine and stumbled across this insanely dope spread. What they did is, they wrote a brief to their favourite ad and design mavericks to create an ad concept to rebrand America(some of these man dem are big shottas in the scene).Cool idea right? And since America is in such a dispicably poor state and their defining companies are practically bankrupt it makes sense right? It also provides reason enough to come up with the most creative of ideas. This all resulted in a spread that is pure awesomenessone. Check out the brief and subsequent creations at papermagazine.com. My favourites are these two because of their simplicity and sheer genius.
Bums, all of us who live in major cities pass them everyday. Most of the time people don’t even pay them any attention. This selection of pictures of bums made me realise that I don’t mind giving some change to a bum as long as he or she is creative. So to any of you bums or future bums, if you are reading this, stay creative in the hustle soon to follow. Recession times man, us people living within walls are having to be creative so step ya game up bums!
Carista is sick with the camera, this was the day we did the K’naan interview and the same day we met Valerie from StreetCarnage. Carista uses her blog as the outlet for her photography. You should definetly check her out. She is also our resident photographer for those of you who did not know that yet.
Yes it’s about that time again sorry i didint get round blogging was preparing the Knaan interview will be up sometime next week. So here you go a few words and a shitload of tracks.
Boy meets girl, boy has a series of unfortunate events, boy gets girl. Aliens seek to destroy the human race, they come to earth and cause incalculable damage and you’re led to believe that humanity is in danger when a lowly yet deceitfully able factory worker rises up and saves our civilization. In a world where past friends yet current enemies threat to destroy democracy and liberty, one rogue man goes against the grain to save our society by using his M16 American made machine gun to kill as many brown people as possible.
The above are typical hollywood scenarios one witnesses when they go to the cinema, whilst they take a break from the action to sip on their Grolsch and munch on their nachos. Today I shall put forth my five favourite alternative contemporary films that rekindles anew our love of motion pictures and reawakens our imagination. Most film students that have studied foreign and independent movies would name Fedirico Fellini, Werner Herzog and Jean-Luc Godard as belonging to the head of the list but this list shall concern itself with current period films so please excuse me if I’m about to commit some type of blasphemous list-making.
In no particular order;
1) The Diving Bell and The Butterfly by Julien Schnabel – An amazing film, adapted from the memoir of the same name, opens with a blurred camera scene as our protagonist wakes up from a coma and finds out that he cannot move any part of his body expect his left eye and cannot speak a word. Through determination and an able speech therapist, our hero writes a book by dictating via blinking! A kaleidoscope of beautiful scenes that arrest our imagination ensues.
2) Raising Victor Vargas by Peter Sollett – Next up is this small, independent, Sundance winning treat set in the Lower East Side of New York. The film is about the coming-of-age of a cocksure, confident, immature Dominican teenager as he grips with girls, responsibility and family relationships. This film is notable for it’s real and candid portrait of domestic life and watching it will have you laughing with recognition and flinching due to the brutal honesty of the film.
3) High Fidelity by Stephen Frears – Being a comedy aficionado, I had to include one of my favourite comedies. More well-known and highly marketed compared with the rest on the list, it stars John Cusack as our lead as an independent record store owner and overall appreciator of music taking us through his top five lists of doomed relationship culminating in his most current breakup that he is going through. This film is like a romantic comedy for men proving that us masculine fellows also have a heart, somewhat.
4) Coffee and Cigarettes by Jim Jarmusch – A series of unrelated short films the focal matter being coffee and cigarettes. A comedy from a l’enfant terrible of independent films, this films is known for very funny one liners and incredibly vague philosophical ideas. It’s got a great of talented people in it too, including RZA and GZA of Wu Tang, Alfred Molina, Stephen Wright, Steve Coogan, Cate Blanchett, Spike Lee’s siblings and Steve Buscemi to name a few.
5) The Motorcylce Diaries by Walter Salles – This film does for South American excursions what Jack Kerouac’s On The Road did for North American expeditions. The film is about a young che guevera and his compadre taking a break from their studies as medicine students to travel South-America by a battered motorcycle. Along their journey, the hurt and terrible conditions of his continental comrades Che witnesses is destined to shape him forever. A beautiful film that is full of insights and a delight for those with the spirit of a vagabond.
Do your eyes a favour and watch the above, stat.

Twitter keeps me updated and connected its my proverbial ear to the street. So from time to time people drop little things such as “i made askmen’s top 5 young male artist” and that makes a dude like me click link. Im being real ambiguous right? Anyway the young male artist in question is Mustafa Maluka the south african nomad who currently trods the streets of a city which was once parted. Im a big fan of his work so im chuffed for old dude. Not too familiar with the rest of the dudes on the list but you can check it out right here his blog right here and his website right here.
On another note, i would like to apologize for the lack of posts. Hussein and myself have been quite busy lately plus its hot in amsterdam and our blood craves warmth having been starved of it for 9months!

I’ve just received an email from the good folks of wsbf~ saying the following:
We are wsbf~. New on the market. So let us introduce. We like it clear, vague, the easy way and the hard way. Ask us for an opinion and we’ll give you one. Or not, if we haven’t got one.
We dive in deep to experience the extremes of the age we currently live in and float on the balance we find in all its contradictions.
We believe there’s not a right, nor a wrong, but an opposite to every action, thought or reality.
wsbf~ is short for “when seven becomes fourteen”; the moment where two opposites meet in perfect balance. We invite you to embrace both sides of everything in life and see where your luck takes you.
Like that thought? Good! We’ve put some of our latest thoughts on a T-shirt. Some typographical, others figurative. Interested? Check us out at whensevenbecomesfourteen.com.
Take care.
Hey wsbf~ nice to meet you!
I just checked your website, and I kinda liked what I saw. Nice pictures from Sjoerd de Wit. Too bad the website didn’t specify where I can cop the T-shirts. Oh well do you have my address? I wear a size L and I think Asheru rocks a medium.
In the previous installment of YL I discussed the escapades of Andy Milonakis and the remix team. The next person to enter the hall off youtube DP fame is the mastermind behind the DntJealousMe hype T Boyy Shet Man. He does rants. A lot of rants. Hilarious rants. Rants about all sorts of subjects. Rants about beatings. Rants about copycats. And all of his rants are in an nigerian accent which makes them extremely funny and a must see. Like every youtube legend, T boy shet man has a song, he calls it the dntjealousme song. It’s supposed to be funky house but it sounds more like zouk to me. LOVE IT!
So dont jealous me, Girls on the right dont jealous me, girls on the left dont jelous me. DOWNLOAD
